This capture is by far my highlight from my expedition to South Island. Travelling all day, we finally reached Wanaka to an overcast afternoon. Making a spontaneous decision, we decided to being our hike up Rob Roy’s Peak trail at 4:30pm. This was the hardest hike I have ever done both physically and mentally. Reaching the top around 4 hours later, we were treated to the beautiful view overlooking the lakes and light snow capped mountains.
After catching up on our breaths, we stood there in silence when suddenly out of nowhere, the clouds exploded with colour. The sun finally shone through a small clearing on the west lighting up the silky clouds to the east to produce the most beautiful sunset ever. To complete the hardest hike and reach the top to beautiful views was one thing. But then to be rewarded with a colourful explosion that took us by surprise was a whole different feeling. I felt blessed and grateful for the most rewarding moment and experience. I wish to translate that feeling of ‘Wow, I am lost for words’ through this image captured to your space.
